Romtelecom
4 April 2008
Romtelecom is one of the leading telecommunications companies in Romania offering ADSL, dial-up, web hosting, telephony, interconnection and other Internet based services. The company was established in July 1991 after ROM-Post-telecom, a state-owned telecommunication and postal service provider, was restructured. Between 1991 and 1998, the company made several investments and implemented restructuring programs to develop and improve the company’s network infrastructure.
In 1998, as part of a privatisation process, 35% of the stake in Romtelecom was acquired by Hellenic Telecommunications Organization OTE. Currently, OTE owns 54.01% of the shares while the remaining 45.99% is owned by the Romanian government which, reportedly, is going to sell them on Bucharest and London stock exchanges in 2008. In June 2007, Amdocs announced that Romtelecom will deploy a solution that will allow the telco to offer next generation content services such as VoIP as well as number portability.
