UPC Romania

UPC Romania currently operates under the UPC brand name and is a fully owned subsidiary of Liberty Global Inc. Prior to 2005, UnitedGlobalCom was the majority shareholder in UPC. In July 2005, Liberty Global acquired UnitedGlobalCom.

UPC Romania is the largest broadband cable operator in Romania and it operates in over 200 cities, including Bucharest. The operator is able to offer broadband to 70 per cent of its homes passed and digital telephony services to 67 per cent.

In June 2007, UPC Romania announced plans to spend EUR 40 million on upgrading its communications network which would allow the telco to offer triple play services in all medium and large sized locations by the end of 2007. By that time the operator expects the number of its VoIP subscribers to double to around 130,000.
